Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the season was ended yesterday after they suffered a 2-0 loss.
Gabriel Martinelli missed a glorious chance to open the score for Arsenal, but his shot was saved by Kepa. William Saliba was then shown a straight red card for a challenge on striker Evanilson. Both teams could not find the breakthrough in the first half.
In the second half, Bournemouth opened the scoring through Ryan Christie broke after a smart corner routine, and Justin Kluivert finished off the evening from the penalty spot to hand Arsenal their first loss of the Premier League season.
Speaking after the defeat, Arsenal boss Michael Arteta insisted it was difficult to win while on a red card. “It’s very difficult to win in the Premier League with 10 men for 60-70 minutes; it’s just an accident waiting to happen,” Arteta told Sky Sports. “We have had to go through it in three games, and that cost us the game. We had the big chance and the moment in the game to score and have a different result, and then we conceded a goal. We try to stick to the rules. The three [red cards] have been different ones and three very different outcomes.” He said.
