World marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei took to her social media handles to explain the reason she withdrew from the TCS London Marathon.

Barely four minutes into the race, the Tokyo Olympic silver medalist, appeared to have discomfort in her right leg, which she later limped off the track.

“The last few weeks were very complicated with a problem with my hamstring, but in the last week everything went better and I hoped I could handle the problem. Training, until the problem came, was great. In the warm-up, I felt pretty good but as the race started at that high pace, the pain came on very quickly and strongly and I just couldn’t handle it from the beginning,” she wrote.

The Marathon sensation has been battling with injuries left, right, and center which has hampered her rhythm. She however believes she will shake them off and come back in a good shape.

“Today was a very bad day for me and I am very sorry for all my fans and especially for the organizers of the London Marathon.” She added.
