The Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) has announced the pushing forward of the CECAFA U18 women’s championship that will be staged in Nairobi Kenya.
The tournament was initially set to start on the 3rd of June 2023 but after consultations with the Kenya federation, the kick off date has been pushed forward by three weeks and will now start on the 24th of June.
The final will be played on 8th June. CECAFA General Secretary Auka Gecheo says the changes will benefit teams in terms of giving them more preparations time.
We are confident that pushing the start of the Championship forward will give Member Associations enough time to prepare their teams for the season opening tournament on the CECAFA calendar,” he told CECAFA media.
Kenya U18 coach Beldine Odemba has been conducting trials to assemble a team that will represent the country in the championship.
Kenya has also been handed the rights for the U18 boys’ tournament that will be staged from November.
