Erling Haaland scored twice as Norway defeated Italy 4-1 to secure a place in the World Cup.
Pio Esposito opened the scoring for Italy in the 11th minute and gave them a glimpse of hope, as they needed to win by a margin of 9 goals. That was the only goal scored by Gattuso’s side, who are now looking to avoid missing again in the world cup after failing to qualify in 2022.
However, the second half belonged to Norway, as they absolutely thrashed the home side. Antonio Nusa hammered the leveller in the 63rd minute of the game to tie the game before Erling Haaland scored a quick brace in the 78th and 79th minutes of the game to break Italy’s hearts. Strand Larsen then sealed a comfortable second half for Norway with a goal late on.
Norway will be going to the World Cup, as Erling Haaland’s 16 goals in the single qualifying round have played a big role.
