Harambee Starlets striker Esse Akida isn’t holding back—Kenya’s Women’s Premier League (WPL) is plagued by subpar pitches and shaky officiating that threaten player safety and the game’s growth.
While top sides like Kenya Police Bullets and Ulinzi Starlets enjoy elite venues (Police Sacco Stadium, Ulinzi Complex), most WPL matches grind on rough fields far below FKF Premier League standards. The ex-pro from Greece, Turkey, and Israel says it undervalues women’s hard work, health, and careers.
“It’s time players speak up,” Akida posted. “We pour our hearts into every game, but poor surfaces and inconsistent refs risk our safety and performance. We deserve safe pitches, fair calls, and real respect!”
