Former Spain and Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta has announced his retirement from international football, aged 40 years.

Iniesta played for Barcelona between 2002 and 2018, where he helped them earn four UEFA Champions League trophies and nine Spanish La Liga crowns. He also won UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup medals. In 674 games with Barcelona, Iniesta provided 135 assists in addition to scoring 57 goals. After that, he performed for Emirates Club and Vissel Kobe of Japan.

He also represented Spain at the international level, where he won the FIFA World Cup in 2010 in South Africa and also won back-to-back Euros in 2008 and 2012. He made the retirement announcement on his social media pages by posting a video saying, “The game continues at 8:10:2024.” He captioned.

Iniesta has since received heartfelt messages from fans all over the world and also former teammates and rivals.
