The recently appointed Harambee Stars head coach, Engin Firat, has revealed that five foreign players who have never played for Harambee Stars will be called up amid the upcoming two-friendly matches against Burundi later this month.
Firat- who was handed a three-year contract, believes that foreign players who have international experience will be key to his philosophy.
“I have some surprise call-ups, you will see. One we are sorting out his passport while another has to renew his. In total and for the long term I am looking to work with five foreign-based players who have never played for the team but only two of them will be ready for the match against Burundi,” he disclosed
Firat was eyeing two foreign assistant coaches but will have to settle with the local duo of William Muluya- Kariobangi Sharks head coach, and Ken Odhiambo. FKF was unable to meet the financial demands of bringing on board the foreign coaches.
International players like Michael Olunga (Captain) have already been sent the invitations, added the Harambee Stars head coach.
“According to FIFA rules, we are supposed to invite them at least 14 days before and we have already done that. As for the local players, we are still looking at whom we have because we want to look at as many of them as possible. Probably in another five days, we will have finished the process and be ready to release the names,” he added.
