Several teams are in anticipation mode following exclusive reports from the Ministry of Sports about financial hitches, which will now affect several teams in the upcoming All-Africa games.

Teams such as Malkia Strikers, and Kenya Morans- who have already secured their slots in the upcoming Paris Olympics, are set to be chopped off in the contingent set to travel to Ghana.

The financial hitches have arisen after the 250 million proposed budget for the All-Africa games was slashed to 150 million by the Kenya National Sports Council (KNSC).

As a result, teams that have already secured the Paris Olympics ticket are set to be the sacrificial lamb.

“We are facing budgetary constraints and we are looking at taking just a small number of teams to Ghana. One of the criteria we are looking at is to support those teams that have not qualified for the Olympic Games. Malkia Strikers as well as Shujaa have already qualified for the Paris games. We want them to give others a chance especially considering the budgetary constraints,” said our source.

However, a conclusive verdict is set to be made next week following further consultations. The All-Africa games are set to kick off from March 5 to March 23 2024.
