Inter Milan defeated neighboring AC Milan 2-0 in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals.
Inter Milan were the dominant side from kickoff against an injury-hit AC Milan side that looked toothless. Inter took the lead through Edin Dzeko, who scored from a corner kick after poor defending. Henrikh Mkhitaryan made it 2-0 minutes later after a lovely dummy goal from Lautaro Martinez.
AC Milan conceded a penalty late in the first half, but it was saved by VAR after Lautaro Martinez had dived in the box.
Speaking after the game, Fikayo Tomori admitted that Inter were better. “A team like Inter is difficult with one goal; well, even when it’s 0-0, it’s difficult, and to go two goals down in the first 15–20 minutes, it’s difficult. It was a kick in the teeth, and I think in the first half it took us a while to get back in the game; in the second half we were better.” He said.
