The Cabinet for Sports Ababu Namwamba is in a race against time to ensure that Kenya’s biggest stadiums- Kasarani and Nyayo, will meet CAF and FIFA standards amid the bid to clinch the 2027 AFCON hosting rights.
In 2021, CAF barred Kenya from hosting international matches after the two stadiums failed to meet the standards required. Among the standards that the stadiums failed to meet was the serialization of seats.
This issue has been addressed and Namwamba says this reform will go a long way in being in a pole position to secure the 2027 Afcon hosting right.
“With the serialization of seats, tickets can now be sold to fans based on seat numbers. This way, troublemakers can be easily identified and arrested, which will be crucial for security and trucking, and it will be connected to ticketing. After this rehabilitation, we will invite FIFA for a follow-up inspection before we prepare our bid for what we want Kenya to host.” He said during an inspection at Kasarani Stadium.” Namwamba said.
Other areas that the stadiums needed renovation included changing and doping rooms, media center, floodlights, and flattening of the playing surface.
