Former Brazilian and Barcelona defender Dani Alves, 40, faces a potential nine-year prison term as a Spanish prosecutor pursues charges of alleged sexual assault from December.

Alves, held in custody since his January arrest over an incident in a Barcelona nightclub, asserts consensual involvement with the accuser after initially denying any encounter.

The prosecutor seeks a restraining order post-sentencing and a 150,000 euros (£130,500) damages payment to the woman. In August, a Barcelona court formally indicted Alves, leading to a trial decision due to sufficient evidence. A trial date for the World Cup veteran is pending.
