Manchester City defeated Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield to close the gap to league leaders Arsenal.

The Premier League classic between the two sides at Anfield did not disappoint once again. Erling Haaland had the first chance of the game in the first minutes, but Alisson stood strong to deny him. Omar Marmoush then saw his effort sail over the bar as City dominated the early stages. Hugo Ekitike had a chance for Liverpool on the other side, but his effort just went off the far post. Semenyo then got the chance outside the box, but his long-range effort was off target.

After the half-time break, Liverpool dominated the second half opening minutes; Ekitike had the best chance of the game, but his header went miles off target. Cody Gakpo then saw his effort saved by Donnarumma. Ekitike then saw his header beat Donnarumma at the far post but go just wide again. Szoboszlai then opened the scoring from a wonderful free kick which Donnarumma was unable to save. Bernardo Silva then levelled the scores after meeting Haaland’s header. Matheus Nunes was brought down in the box by Allison, and City was awarded a penalty. Erling Haaland stood strong to give City the lead. More drama was witnessed when City broke on a counter and Haaland appeared to have fouled Szoboszlai as the ball went into the empty Liverpool net. After VAR review, the goal was disallowed, and then Szoboszlai was sent off for a foul on Haaland.
