English premier league champions and treble winners Manchester City suffered a defeat yesterday in third round of EFL Cup.

Pep Guardiola side lost the match 1-0 against Newcastle united. The only goal of the match was scored by Isak from JoeLinton’s cross.

This means that the citizens have been eliminated in three previous consecutive EFL Cup competition after winning their last EFL Cup in 2021.

Manchester City dominated the game despite resting some of its first team players. Manchester City manager pep Guardiola rested club’s top scorer Erling Haaland as he was unused substitute.

Newcastle United win means that they will now face the EFL Cup defending Champions Manchester United at Old Trafford in the forth round of the competition.

In other matches, Arsenal also advanced to the fourth round after defeating Brentford 1-0. Chelsea also advanced to the next round by edging out Brighton by the same margin while Liverpool won 3-1 against Leicester City to book their spot in the next round.
