Chelsea defeated Brighton 1-0 to advance to the next round of the Carabao Cup.

After a poor start to the season, Chelsea were avoiding an early exit in the Carabao Cup in a tie against an in-form Brighton side. Nicolas Jackson scored the winning goal in the second half after a lovely pass by Cole Palmer. Jackson thought he had scored the second goal of the game, only for it to be ruled offside.

Brighton had numerous chances to level, but Robert Sanches stood strong in goal to deny Soly March. Chelsea will face Blackburn in the next round of the Carabao Cup.

Speaking after the win, Mauriccio Pochettino said it should be the turning point for the team. “It should be; it must be,” he said. “It’s about time. Today there were many positive things—we saw the players fighting to give their best.” He said.
