Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez will likely miss the rest of the year as he is set to undergo surgery.

Last season, Martinez underwent surgery to repair a broken metatarsal in his right foot, which caused him to miss nearly two months of the 2022–23 season. He played at the start of the season and was injured in the 3-1 loss to Arsenal.

He resumed playing against Brighton in the Premier League and Bayern Munich in the Champions League, but the metatarsal problem persisted. The medical staff of the team has now determined that a second surgery would be appropriate for him to have in order to fully heal from the chronic injury.

The injury will come as a blow to Manchester United, who are already having a poor start to the Premier League season.
