Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has said that gambling on his fitness last season was “partly the medical staff’s fault.” Shaw was asked to play against Luton after being forced off with a hamstring injury at Aston Villa the previous week.

According to the England defender, he should not have played against Luton, a game that saw him limp off due to a hamstring injury, putting his dream for the Euros in jeopardy.

“I should not have played that game. It’s everyone’s fault, it’s partly the medical staff’s fault, it’s partly my fault. I had everyone asking, how can you not be fit for United but be fit for England? No one knew the situation I was actually facing. It’s been disappointing for me, but I will do all I can for United, and that comes before everything, and that will never change,” said Shaw.

It is not clear when the defender will return to full play as the Euros kick off in a few weeks.
