Antony celebrates after scoring

Manchester United defeated Barcelona 2-1 yesterday at Old Trafford to qualify for the next round.

After a 2-2 draw in the first leg at Camp Nou, the second leg was supposed to be the decider for the next round. Barcelona started the game on the front foot after they were awarded a penalty after Bruno Fernandes fouled Balde in the box. Robert Lewandowski stepped up to score the resulting penalty kick to give Barcelona the lead.

In the second half, Manchester United brought Antony in, and he completely changed the game. Fred scored the leveler early in the second half, and Antony stepped up to score the winner late on after poor Barcelona defending. Manchester United won the tie 4-3 on aggregate and hence qualified for the next round.

Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag said that the win was his best as United manager so far. “We had some good wins, at Liverpool and against Arsenal at home, really good wins.” But this; two legs against Barcelona, the leader of La Liga, eight points ahead of Real Madrid…” We all saw Real Madrid this week [when they beat Liverpool 5-2 at Anfield]. “To beat them (Barcelona), it’s a big win, yeah.” He said.
