Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has expressed strong confidence in Morocco’s chances of winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), building on their impressive World Cup performance. With Morocco hosting the tournament from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, Olunga highlighted the home advantage and Morocco’s recent form as key factors. The tournament will feature 24 teams competing in nine modern stadiums across six cities, with Rabat serving as the main hub and hosting the opening match, a semi-final, and the final at the iconic Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

Olunga also named Ivory Coast and Egypt as his other top contenders, recognizing their strong performances in the qualifiers. Despite Kenya missing out on AFCON 2025 after failing to progress in the qualifiers, Olunga remains optimistic about Harambee Stars’ future. He pointed out the team’s previous challenge of lacking CAF-approved home venues, which forced many games to be played abroad and affected their performances. However, with recent inspections clearing local stadiums, he believes the team is on an upward trajectory and is hopeful for better results and future qualification.

The AFCON 2025 marks a milestone for Morocco, whose extensive upgrades of stadiums and sporting infrastructure have turned the host cities into premier football destinations. The tournament promises to bring intense competition and electric atmosphere, showcasing the best of African football. For Kenya, the focus is now on overcoming past obstacles to leverage improved home facilities, aiming to return stronger for future continental tournaments.
