Newcastle closed in on Champions League qualification after thrashing an in-form Brighton side 4-1 at St. James Park.

Brighton foward Deniz Undav accidentally put a Kieran Trippier corner into his own goal to give the home side the lead. Dan Burn then scored from a free-kick to give them a 2-0 halftime lead. Deniz Undav then scored to give Brighton hope of a comeback, but Calum Wilson scored the third goal, and Bruno Guimares added the fourth in extra time to ensure the win.

Speaking after the win, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was happy with the performance. “I thought we were outstanding.” I feel that’s very much us at our best in that first half. We were relentless with what we did, and full credit goes to the players for what they gave physically.” He said.

Eddie Howe’s side needs just one win from their remaining two games against Newcastle and Chelsea to return to the European competition.
