Richard Hughes has stepped down as Liverpool’s sporting director with immediate effect, bringing an end to his two-year spell at Anfield. The decision comes after he completed his final transfer window with the club.Hughes joined Liverpool in June 2024 after a successful spell as Bournemouth’s technical director.
During his time at Anfield, he played a key role in the appointment of Arne Slot and oversaw a major period of squad recruitment, including high-profile arrivals such as Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Bradley Barcola.
His departure had been anticipated for several months, with Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal identified as his next destination. He is now set to take charge of the club’s sporting department as part of its ambitious project.
