Thomas Tuchel, the former Chelsea manager, has agreed to become England’s next head coach.

England has been without a permanent manager since Gareth Southgate quit after the Three Lions’ Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain. Lee Carsley, who was appointed temporary manager by the Football Association, will remain in charge for England’s next two Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland in November, with Tuchel taking over permanently thereafter. He has signed an 18-month contract, which will begin on January 1 next year.

Tuchel replaced Lampard at Chelsea in 2021 as the head coach and led the London team to their second Champions League win over Manchester City in Porto. He was later sacked at the beginning of the other season, especially after new owners took over. He was later appointed by Bayern Munich but missed on the league title, which was won by Bayern Leverkusen, and he left his role as the coach as he was replaced by current manager Vincent Kompany.
