Liverpool saw their losing streak extended to five games in all competitions after their loss against United.
The Premier League champions saw their title hopes start to fade, though it was still early in the season. Arne Slot’s side have now lost five games in a row in all competitions this season and have been dethroned from the top spot in the Premier League standings. United won the game on Sunday thanks to Harry Maguire’s header in the closing minutes of the game. Liverpool star players have been far from being at their best, with the two record-breaking stars, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, yet to score in the Premier League. Mo Salah has also been a shadow of his own this season.
Dutch manager Arne Slot admitted it is a challenging time for him. “I think as a manager you constantly face challenges. When you just start, you face the challenge of being a new manager, and then you need to win games. Then when you do well, you go to a bigger club, and people are like, ‘Oh, let’s see how he does over there.’ Now we have lost four times in a row, and that’s also a challenge. So, the life of a football manager is an ongoing challenge.” He said.
Liverpool will play against Frankfurt next in the UEFA Champions League, aiming to end the losing streak.
