The upcoming middle distance Kenyan prodigy in the 5000 meters, Ishmail Kipkurui, is ready to clinch the World Athletics Championships ticket this weekend.

The National World Championships trials are set to start from Friday to Saturday. Kipkurui believes he has all it takes to make it to Budapest, Hungary. The World Championships are scheduled to start from August 19, to August 27, 2023.

The reigning World Cross Country Champion, who broke the nation’s 12- year drought in the Junior World Cross Country arena will be a force to reckon with. He won the Bathurst’ World Cross- Country championships earlier this year.

The National trials have attracted 160 athletes who will compete for different slots.

Kipkurui’s coach Barnaba Kitilit, believes that he is ready.

“The races will be very competitive and unpredictable at the same time. Anybody can win. The challenge for the slots is real and they have to up their game for them to make the team to Budapest,” Kitilit said.
