Aston Villa defeated Bayern Munich 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League game played at the Villa Park.
In their first home game in the Champions League for Villa in over a decade, the United side produced a superb performance to beat Bayern Munich under Vincent Kompany, who have been on fire this season. Pau Torres thought he had given Villa the lead, but VAR dissalowed the goal. Serge Gnabry had the best chance for Bayern in the first half but saw his effort sail off the post to the annoyance of Harry Kane.
In the second half, Aston Villa supersub Jhon Duran scored the opening goal for Emery side, which brought the whole stadium to an eruption. It was Duran’s sixth goal of the season in just 290 minutes of action. Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martinez produced a wonderful save in the final minutes of the game to deny Harry Kane the leveller.
Aston Villa were able to end Bayern’s long record of 41 games unbeaten in the group/league games.
