Atletico Madrid knocked out Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals after a 3-2 win on aggregate.
Barcelona needed a comeback to overturn the 2-0 first-leg defeat. Lamine Yamal had the first chance of the game 30 seconds into the game, but his effort was brilliantly saved by Musso. Five minutes in, Lenglet was dispossessed, and Ferran Torres released Lamine Yamal, who opened the scoring on the night. Barcelona dominated the early stages as Dani Olmo’s effort curled just wide off the mark. Lookman provided a bright spark for Atletico as his cutback was met by Griezmann but could not hit the target. Ferran Torres then doubled Barcelona’s lead as he was released by Olmo and rushed into the top corner. Lookman then restored Atletico Madrid’s lead after meeting Llorente’s cross at the far post.
In the second half, Barcelona were on top as Fermin Lopez’s half-chance was saved by Musso. Ferran Torres then scored the third goal for Barcelona on the night, but VAR disallowed it due to offside. Joan Garcia was forced into an excellent save from Lenormand’s effort as Atletico grew into the game. More drama was witnessed after Eric Garcia brought down Sorloth. After VAR review, Garcia was sent off, as no offside occurred in the build-up. Ronald Araujo had the chance after Cancelo’s cross, but his header sailed wide as Barcelona bowed out of the Champions League.
