Chelsea’s poor run of form continued as they were beaten 2-0 by Brentford at Stamford Bridge.

The London-based club went into the game having not won a game since Lampard was appointed manager. They lined up in an unfamiliar formation, with Sterling being the only forward on the pitch for the Blues. Brentford eventually took the lead through a Janelt header midway through the second half, but it took a deflection off Azpilicueta on its way in. Chelsea offered little on the other end as Raheem Sterling’s effort on his weaker foot just sailed wide off the post, and Brentford led at halftime.

In the second half, Lampard brought on Aubameyang and Mudyrk in an effort to save the game. Aubameyang had his chance to score, but his shot was comfortably saved by Raya. Substitute Mbeumo scored Brentford’s second goal, but off a deflection again from Thiago Silva, giving Thomas Frank’s side a comfortable 2-0 win.

The win took Brentford up to number 9 with 47 points, while Chelsea are in position 11 with just 39 points.
