Bruno Fernandes scored the winner as Manchester United defeated Aston Villa 1-0 on Sunday at Old Trafford.

Going into the game, Aston Villa were the in-form side, having climbed the standings and fighting for European qualification next season. United knew they would have to be at their best in order to beat Unai Emery’s side. Marcus Rashford had a glorious chance to give United the lead, but Villa goalkeeper Martinez stood strong and saved the effort.

Bruno Fernades eventually opened the scoring minutes before halftime after meeting a rebound off Martinez, who had saved Rashford’s effort and opened the score.

In the second half, Villa pushed for a leveler, and Victor Lindelof cleaved Douglas Luiz’s effort off the line.

Erik Ten Hag was impressed with his side’s performance. “A good three points, but I think it was an impressive performance from Manchester United. We were magnificent on the ball, had good possession, and pressed well.” He said.

United maintained the lead and ended up getting the important three points at home.
