Spanish Club Sevilla have appointed former Uruguay national team head coach Diego Alonso as the new head coach with immediate effect after firing Mendilibar.
Mendilibar was hired in March but has become the club’s third manager to be dismissed inside 12 months.
The 62-year-old guided Sevilla away from relegation danger with a 12th-placed finish last season and defeated Roma on penalties in May to clinch their seventh Europa League title.
Sevilla decided to fire Mendilibar after 2-2 draw against Rayo Vallecano in LaLiga on Saturday, leaving them 14th with two wins, two draws, and four defeats.
The Uruguayan Diego Alonso will take over from Mendilibar as he is tasked with turning Sevilla season, which they have started while struggling to register pleasing results.
