Hurray! The FKF-WPL 2024-25 season is off, and running after getting postponed on some occasions. The league was set to start on September 29, 2024, but pushed to October 5, 2024.
Here are things that we learned from Matchday One.
- A STRONG START FOR THE LEAGUE TITLE CONTENDERS
The defending champions Kenya Police Bullets looked good. If not for the Kisped Kenya goalie, Lavender Obongo, the defending champions would have had a goal fest.

In the meantime, last season’s second-place finishers, Vihiga Queens, secured a hard-fought 1-0 win against their intense rivals Ulinzi Starlets.

Similarly, the league dark horses, Kibera Soccer Women, emerged victorious on the road against Bungoma Queens. They earned a comfortable 2-0 win.

- MOST OF THE FKF-WPL TEAM NEEDS TO UP THEIR GAME ON SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT
I won’t mention names, they know themselves. On a matchday, please publish your lineups, provide clear in-game commentary- who scored, who provided an assist, and post-match interviews, and even go further by providing match stats.
- NOT A GOOD START FOR THE PROMOTED TEAMS
Barring Mombasa Olympics- who won against WADADIA by 2-0, Kisumu All-starlets and Kisped Kenya lost their opening games against Zetech Sparks, and Kenya Police Bullets respectively.
- HATS OFF TO TRINITY STARLETS AND VIHIGA QUEENS.
Trinity Starlets had a B-game on their social media handles; they posted the Post-match comments from the coach and goal scorers. They coupled it by posting the match stats. Impressive right?
Vihiga Queens, was the only FKFWPL team on matchday one to stream their match on social media. They also posted the goal scorer with the assist maker, which no other club employed.
