Jürgen Klopp is set to become the new head coach of the German national team after agreeing to take charge following Germany’s disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager has accepted the role in principle, with discussions now focused on the details of his long-term contract, the sporting project, and his departure from his current position as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer. While those final agreements are still being completed, Klopp is expected to lead Germany into a new era.
Klopp returns to coaching after stepping away from club management in 2024, having enjoyed one of Europe’s most successful managerial careers. During his time at Mainz 05, Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool, he won multiple major trophies, including the Bundesliga, Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup. He is widely regarded for his high-intensity pressing style, strong leadership, and ability to build long-term winning teams.
Germany turned to Klopp after Julian Nagelsmann resigned in the wake of the national team’s early World Cup elimination. The German Football Association believes Klopp is the ideal figure to rebuild the squad and guide Die Mannschaft toward success at future major tournaments.
