Tusker FC had not won their last four FKF-PL matches prior to their win against Mathare United

Robert Matano, Tusker FC’s head coach has expressed his delight and contentment with his squad for putting on a shift last weekend against Mathare United, to put their winless streak (D2, L2) behind them.

The Brewers won 2-1 courtesy of goals from Ibrahim Joshua and Shami Mwinyi. Matano did not shy away from the fact that their 4 games winless streak was influenced by injuries on key players.

“It is a good relief considering the circumstances because we did not have most of our key players. I appreciate the group of players we are having because they came out very strong and showed that they are in this team to play which makes me happy. We were still rebuilding after losing some of the first team players but that fighting spirit in the second half showed that we are improving game by game,” he said.

The 13 FKF-PL champions are fifth on the FKF-PL chart, six points behind the league leader Gor Mahia. Matano now hopes that his team can build up from the win to the upcoming matches to keep their title defense hopes alive.

“We should not look at today’s win alone. We should focus forward on the upcoming games as this one is already history. We are happy but not excited so we should not forget that we still need to win. We want to put our foot down and we must look forward to victory because we have many matches to come, and we have to play to win so everybody must develop that confidence and that spirit to fight. I know we are going to do better,” he added.
