Athletes that will be representing Kenya are prepared to depart the country this Thursday in preparation for this year’s Africa U-18 and U-20 Athletics Competitions in Ndola, Zambia.

The continental competition will take place from April 29 to May 2. The 49-athlete squad has been receiving residential training at Kasarani for the past week under the direction of head coach Robert Ng’isirei in preparation for the two competitions. The competition will be used by Athletics Kenya to train junior and young competitors for the transition to this year’s international athletics championships in Budapest, Hungary, as well as the Olympic games in Paris, France, the next year.

Barnaba Korir has insisted he believes the team will perform well. “We believe we have the best team for the two championships, and so far the training has been smooth, and we have confidence in the team with most of the athletes expected to transition into seniors during this year’s world athletics championships or next year’s Olympic Games in Paris, “said Korir.
