Tottenham Hotspurs defeated Liverpool 2-1 to continue their impressive start to the Premier League.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring for Liverpool in the first half, but the goal was wrongly disallowed for offside. Son then opened the scoring after a good assist from Richarlison. Curtis Jones was then shown a straight red card for his foul on Bissouma. Cody Gakpo then levelled for Liverpool at the stroke of halftime to bring the score level.

In the second half, substitute Diogo Jota was sent off after receiving a second yellow card in a space of three minutes. The game seemed to be headed for a draw, only for Joel Matip to score his own goal in the final seconds of the game.

PGMOL released a statement confirming a mistake on Diaz’s goal. “The goal by Luiz Diaz was disallowed for offside by the on-field team of match officials. This was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention; however, the VAR failed to intervene.” Read the statement.
