Harambee Stars head coach, Engin Firat, has had to clear the air on his unpopular decision of starting without an out-to-out striker against Zimbabwe.

In a match that ended in a frustrating nil-nil draw, the team struggled to create chances as they lacked a focal point upfront.

The team’s skipper Michael Olunga did not feature as he is nursing an injury. Nevertheless, he had three strikers from whom he could have started. The likes of Benson Omala, Jonah Ayunga, and John Avire.

In response he had this to say;

Their central defenders were not very fast. They were however physical and strong in the air. We wanted to capitalize on it and pass the ball around them. We had situations where it worked in the first half but not as I had wished,” he revealed.

To his dismay, the thought to be masterstroke fell through. He was forced to switch things up in the second half. He brought in the seasoned striker, John Avire.

I had to bring Avire who was very aggressive. He plays as a center forward at club level throughout but in the end, we didn’t get a goal,” he added.
