The reigning national 5000 meters Daniel Simiyu Ebenyo, has his eyes set on clinching Gold medal in the upcoming World Championships in Budapest. However he has to surmount the National trials hurdle to earn a ticket for participation.
The World Championships national trials are scheduled this weekend, and Ebenyo hopes to bag the ticket.
This season has been good to Ebenyo as he has won six of the seven races that he has competed in. He was defeated in the World Cross Country Championships held in Bathurst- he finished sixth.
“I hope to make the team for the World Championships.”
“This time I want to come back with a medal. This will only be possible with good preparations,” Simiyu said during an interview with World Athletics.
Despite his confidence of making it to the World Championships, Ebenyo believes failure to not qualifying his heart is with who will qualify.
“I hope to make it on to the Kenyan team, but even if I don’t, I will always wish the best to those who make it to represent the country and wait for my time. Through hard work, I believe that everybody can achieve success,” he says.
