Arsenal continued their impressive run in the Champions League with a 1-0 win over Shakhtar at the Emirates Stadium.
Mikel Artets side took the lead when Gabriel Martinelli’s effort in the 29th minute rebounded against the post, hit the Shakhtar keeper in the back, and trickled across the line as the home team’s dominance paid dividends. The Gunners started the game well. Riccardo Calafiori had a glorious chance to score, but his effort went wide off the post, before Gabriel Jesus had a fantastic chance after the goal but was stopped by Riznyk.
Shakhtar were well organised and posed a threat on the counterattack, with winger Eguinaldo providing a threat to Arsenal’s backline. The Arsenal injury crisis, however, continues as Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka missed the game due to being unfit. Defender Calafiori was also subbed off due to an injury and is now doubtful to face Liverpool at the weekend.
