African record holder Ferdinand Omanyala clocked 10.05 seconds at the South African Grand Prix in Gauteng on Wednesday.

In the 100 meters, Ferdinand Omanyala won for the fourth time this season in competition, clocking 10.05 seconds to beat fellow countryman Samwel Imeta’s 10.22 seconds. Imeta was quicker off the line and quickly took the lead as Omanyala made his customary flinching start at the starting line. However, Omanyala’s outstanding performance in the second half of the race paid off, as he easily passed Imeta on the outside lane and the rest of the pack to secure the win.

Speaking after the game, Omanyala was happy with the win. “Yea, the sub-10 is becoming elusive, but every time I feel it is getting closer. It is just a matter of fine margins,” Omanyala said after the race. “I will still chase it down. I am headed to Botswana next week, and hopefully I can try and get there. I am looking forward to a good race,” he added.
