Police Bullets FC celebrated their Women’s Premier League title at the Police SACCO Grounds, but the mood was dampened when no cheque was presented to the champions during the coronation ceremony.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) had reportedly pledged KSh 1 million to the winners in an announcement made several weeks ago, with runners-up Ulinzi Starlets slated to receive KSh 500,000 and third-placed Kibera Soccer Women set to take KSh 250,000. None of those payments were handed out at the event, leaving players and officials unsure when the promised funds will arrive.

Club representatives at the ceremony expressed disappointment and called for clarity from the federation. “We worked hard all season and expected the recognition to include the financial reward announced earlier,” said one member of the Bullets’ staff, who asked not to be named. Players who lined up for the trophy presentation accepted the accolades but were visibly concerned about the outstanding prize.

The absence of the cheques raises questions about the disbursement process and timing. Organisers did not provide an immediate explanation at the grounds, and FKF officials were not available for comment by the end of the event. It remains unclear whether logistical delays, administrative processes, or other factors are behind the postponement.

For Ulinzi Starlets and Kibera Soccer Women, the delay is also unwelcome. Prize money can be crucial for club operations, from equipment and travel to player welfare and development programs. Coaches and managers of the runner-up and third-placed sides reiterated their expectation that the federation honor the earlier promise as soon as possible.

As celebrations continue for Police Bullets FC on the pitch, attention has shifted off it: clubs and supporters will be watching for an official statement and a timeline from FKF on when the allocated prize money will be released.
