LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to score 40,000 career points.

During their 124-114 loss to the Denver Nuggets, Lebron James scored 26 points as the Lakers lost the game at the Crypto Arena. Lebron scored the historic bucket with a beautiful layup in the second quarter with 10 minutes left on the clock.

James has been on a historic run for the past few years, as last year he became the leading player in points. He made his NBA debut for the Cleveland Cavaliers in October 2003, and he is still playing.

Speaking after breaking the record, James said it was pretty awesome. “Being the first player to do something, it’s pretty cool in this league,” said the 39-year-old. The main thing is always the main thing, and that’s the win,” he said. “And I hated that it had to happen in a defeat, especially versus a team that plays extremely well. We played some good basketball but weren’t able to close it out, so [it’s] bittersweet, but I enjoyed every moment on the floor.” He said.
