Nairobi, April 22, 2026 – Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has made a passionate plea to rivals AFC Leopards, urging them to cut Mashemeji Derby ticket prices to make the iconic clash more accessible for cash-strapped fans.
With the fiercely contested fixture looming, Rachier highlighted the tough economic climate gripping Kenya, where rising living costs are keeping supporters away from stadiums. “Let’s make ticketing affordable to attract more fans,” he stated ahead of the showdown. “Looking at the current state of the economy, it is not very favourable. We do not have the power to decide how our opponents price their tickets, but we can only appeal to them to consider the fans’ concerns.”
The Mashemeji Derby, a pulsating Nairobi rivalry that draws tens of thousands, has long been a highlight of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL). Yet, recent seasons have seen attendance dwindle due to steep prices—often KSh 500–1,000 per ticket—amid inflation and job uncertainties.
Rachier’s call echoes growing fan frustration, with social media buzzing about boycotts unless affordability improves. Lower prices could not only boost turnouts but also inject vital revenue into both clubs through higher volumes.
